VOICE THREAD AS AN ASSESSMENT TOOL
Learning Objective One: Students will display their ability to demonstrate learning activities for different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy through a Voice Thread discussion board with at least 80% accuracy according to the grading rubric.
Activity: Bloom's Taxonomy is a new concept to many of the faculty in the class. Many new faculty come in expecting to lecture and then administer a multiple choice exam. After being introduced to Higher Level Thinking through the use of Bloom's Taxonomy, they are truly amazed at the options of activities they can use in their classes. Bloom's Level: Applying
After completing a reading series on Bloom's Taxonomy, the students will participate in a Voice Thread discussion board where they will share activities from their content area for each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Each student will name the level, starting with Remembering and then discuss an activity they can incorporate in their class based on that level. They will then move to the next level until they have named each level with an accompanying activity.

Voice Thread is a free, collaborative discussion board and more. Images, documents and videos can be uploaded by the students. Comments can be left in five different ways, voice (using a microphone or telephone), uploading a text file, audio file or video. Voice Thread can be embedded in Blackboard, the College's Learning Management System.
Some of the benefits of Voice Thread include:
Some of the disadvantages/challenges of Voice Thread include:
Diversity: Many online classes tend to be text-based (visual). By adding an audio dimension through Voice Thread, the activity appeals to yet another learning style (auditory). The activity appeals to intrapersonal intelligence because students are able to individually think about their classes and then add to the Voice Thread. It appeals to interpersonal intelligence because students can easily interact with each other should they choose to do so. Students are using Bloom's level of Analyzing as they will think about their activities and determine in which level of Bloom's they belong.
Plagiarism: Because the assignment is so specific to each faculty members' content area, there is little chance for plagiarism.
